Foothill High School began its first web site in the 1995-1996 school year.
It was started by a handful of students, working under the direction of
Mrs. Debbie King.
As the pages were completed, Mrs. King would take the files (on a floppy
disk) to the County Office of Education to be uploaded.
After a few weeks, Mr. McLean began to help Mrs. King with the maintenance
of the site.
Due to limitations at the County Office, the Foothill site, still in its
infancy, was moved.
Snow crest Computer Specialties adopted the school and began to host its
website for free.
The official launch date for the Foothill website was March 1, 1996.
In the fall of 1996, Foothill High School added a pilot course to its
offerings.
"Publishing on the Web" was born. With a lab full of motivated students,
the Foothill Web Site took off.
Mrs. King taught the class, while Mr. McLean updated and maintained the
site. This continued until the fall of 1997.
In October of that year, Mr. McLean took over the teaching of the "web
class".
It was just easier for one person to teach the building of the pages, and
to maintain the site.
Again the site grew with much more content and complexity being added.
Pages could be uploaded in a timely manner, students learned new skills,
and Foothill continued to dominate in web page publishing.
In the fall of 1998 the official URL of the site changed from the Snow crest
address to the present
http://www.foothillcougars.com.
Awesome Net Services in Redding purchased the domain name and
donated it to the school. In addition, Awesome began hosting the site and
donated
unlimited server space to the school. In the fall of 2000 the site was
moved to our
own server at our district office. The SUHSD server is run by EHS graduate
Elijah VanSlyke,
who now works full-time for the district.
and also thank our own I.T. department. They are the best!
This year sees the "web class" again embarking on new territory.
We have already have surpassed our previous output at this point in the
school year.
We are currently posting our fifth year of "shockwave-flash" pages. Stay
tuned to the site for details.
The web site information pages are dedicated to Mrs. King.
All of what we have accomplished is because of her leadership, vision, and
most of all, friendship. |
